Day 14

Well, apparently Erin loves Viagra. Overnight, her blood gases were the best that they have been. When I arrived, her oxygen sat was mid 80's, and is staying in the 80's. Par for the course, as I wrote that sentence it dipped to 79. I think she is doing it on purpose to drive me nuts. Probably the first of many little efforts on her part to see my reaction. :-)

Today we will also try breast feeding for the first time. Erin has been given clearance for two home cooked meals per day, versus having them out of the bottle. This should be interesting.

Erin weighs 6 lbs 12 oz today, which we are very happy about (she was born weighing 5 lbs 14 oz two weeks ago tomorrow). Her days now consist of sleeping, and eating. Except for happy hour, which apparently she conducts every morning from 3 to 5 am. As Nurse Haley told me when I called this morning, she has the time right, she is just 12 hours off! When Sheila was carrying Erin, every morning at that time Sheila would joke that Erin was having a party inside her, as that was when she was most active. This should prove to be fun when she comes home. I will take it, as it will certainly 12 - 14 hour days in the hospital every day. I went for a quick haircut first thing this morning and it seemed almost surreal to be somewhere other than home or Children's.

Today will be another typical day in the NICU. Yesterday, they moved the baby next to Erin out who had such a bad condition. Apparently she is doing better and can be moved to a less critical room (Erin is in the room with the most critical babies). In addition, another baby on the end was moved overnight as well, and we have a new inmate. The new baby is scheduled for surgery here in the ward this afternoon.
